Go see what everyone is talking about!

In the summer birds tend to shed their feathers and the proudest peacocks on Farmer Jerry’s farm went first.  We have been working with the brightest green, mauve and brown hues in the barnyard.  The feathers we use are all acquired humanly so you can feel good about wearing them.

It has come to our attention that some of the photos on our website are tantalizing you, but are not listed in the online store.  When we work with a customer one on one to create a custom item, it is generally unique and can not be duplicated exactly.
However if there is an item you absolutely love we are happy to recreate it as closely as possible.  Perhaps you would prefer a different metal, stone or size.  Anything is possible!  Our bounds are limited only by your imagination.  If you would like an estimate for a custom piece of your own email: audra@blisjewelry.com.

Once considered only useful for industrial purposes, the aesthetic beauty of these bewitching stones was over looked.  Black diamonds not only have the same refractive index (the sparkle effect) of their colorless cousins, they are also just as hard and durable.  The name diamond derives from the Greek word “adama”, meaning “invincible”.  It is said that the Greeks believed that diamonds were tears of the gods.  The Romans believed diamonds were splinters of fallen stars.  Diamonds were also used in ancient China as an engraving tool for jade and as a drill tool for beads.

Diamonds today are the official birthstone for the month of April, are associated with the zodiac sign Aries and the crown chakra.  They are believed to symbolize eternity and love, being used in engagement rings and wedding rings the world over.   Diamonds are also believed to bring balance, clarity and abundance, particularly with relationships.  It is believed to bring the wearer courage and hope.  When set with other stones it is believed to heighten their metaphysical properties.

For the gentleman who purchases diamonds for his lady, only favorable cooing and fawning can follow.  More specifically, black diamonds look best in low lighting.  If you have fallen out of favor with your sweetheart, buy her a Blis jewelry black diamond necklace and bask in the love glow it will ignite, but be sure to give it to her over a delicious candlelit dinner.

The wildly talented, Trish Foulke came to visit and brought with her piles of beautiful feathers.  They have inspired some spectacular new earrings which are now available for purchase!  Make your way down to Sonny B boutique in the Landfall shopping center and pick up a pair.  Sonny B has them in three different colors and they are all made with sterling silver or 14/20 yellow gold.

Her necklace (shown above) is a Blis design created with natural coral and volcanic rock from the beautiful Greek island of Santorini.  The islands’ cities are built on the lip of a caldera, which was created thousands of years ago when the volcano (which is still active) erupted destroying the legendary city of Atlantis and the Minoan civilization of Crete.  Today locals and tourists alike adorn themselves with the once deadly igneous black stones.

Some interesting lore about coral:

  • Coral is one of the seven treasures listed in Buddhist scriptures.
  • Coral was thought to be able to calm the sea.
  • Coral was believed to protect from lightning and hurricanes.
  • Coral was worn as a talisman to stop bleeding.
  • If the wearer of coral became seriously ill, it was believed the coral would lose its color.
  • Ancient Romans would put coral around the necks of their children to protect them from harm.
  • Pulverized coral added to wine was believed to be a potent curative tonic (Ancient Rome).
  • In Medieval times, coral was used to ward off the evil eye and to cure sterility.
  • Italian men once presented coral as an engagement gift.
